Please enjoy this free chapter, which will give you a good idea of the tone and style of Copyright for Creatives

Chapter 2 of Copyright for Creatives is a little different from the rest of the book, because it focuses on things that can’t be copyrighted. Such works may, however, be protected by trademark or patent, and while Copyright for Creatives is about, well, copyright, this chapter gives an overview of patents and trademarks. Couple that with the Trademark & Patent Overview appendix, and you’ll get a pretty good general idea of those legal concepts as well.

While this chapter is devoted to detailing the kinds of things that can’t be protected by copyright, the law often offers various workarounds and tactics that let creators protect work that might generally fall into the “unprotectable” bucket. The chapter discusses some of those strategies, and also clearly shows how some work just can’t be protected by any kind of intellectual property law.
